Mosimane in awe of Celtic’s supporters

Before Pitso Mosimane could get into the post-mortem of Mamelodi Sundowns 0-0 draw away to Bloemfontein Celtic, he spoke about the financial crisis there, with the club in dire straits.

Celtic have failed to pay players’ salaries, to the point that Alfred Ndengane has asked to be released with immediate effect and was spotted in Orlando Pirates gear at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday night at a league match against Golden Arrows.

“The passion that the supporters have for this club (Celtic) is unbelievable and it is really a sad case to find this team has got some issues off the football pitch,” said Mosimane.

“The opposition crowd called me to their side and sang for me, you never get that, it is more than football,” he added, before he went to talk about how Masandawana lacked sting in front of goal.

“We controlled the game, we bossed the midfield and we got our passing paths right but we lacked a little bit of an X-factor up front to kill the game. It was a great game of football but dominating possession doesn’t win you the game, you have to put the ball in the back of the net.

Mosimane was clearly upset that a goal from Lebo Maboe was disallowed because Themba Zwane was off-side, even though he did not appear to be interfering with play.

“We scored a goal, but the linesman got it wrong. He saw Themba Zwane in an off-side position but being in an off-side position when you are not interfering with play doesn’t mean you are off-side,” said Mosimane.

The Downs coach was not only upset by decisions against his team, he was vocal about what he believes was an illegitimate Bidvest Wits’ penalty against Cape Town City on Tuesday.

“It is an unfortunate situation with the decisions. I saw a penalty was given to Bidvest Wits but no one was touched. I think Benni McCarthy was upset with that, but I was also upset when they won against us in the MTN8 semifinal because they scored an offside goal and he went on to raise the trophy.”
