Orlando Pirates are a work in progress, says Davids

Fadlu Davids reckons Orlando Pirates are a work in progress, as the Bucs co-coach tries to find a winning momentum alongside Mandla Ncikazi at the helm of the Buccaneers hot seat.

In the last five games, Davids and Ncikazi have been in charge of the Bucs ship, they have managed to record two draws, two wins and one loss, which came in the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns.

Pirates have only managed to collect eight points in those five games, which sees them sitting in fourth place on the league standings.

Before the Downs loss, Bucs looked promising after the club registered two consecutive victories, beating Swallows FC and Chippa United – scoring four goals in the process and conceding one.

But, during the Downs clash, Bucs got a wake-up call, as they found it hard to find the back of the net, even though their play seemed promising, however, that was before Sundowns took control of the match and displayed their class.

“It’s a process now taking the team forward, building our play with the ball and without the ball and putting those steps and processes in and although we take the defeat (to Sundowns) very badly, it’s a huge lesson for our players to learn today (last Saturday),” said Davids.

“That will take us huge steps moving forward instead of backwards, the defeat is a bitter pill to swallow but a huge step in terms of the process in what we want to achieve going forward.”

Davids and Ncikazi certainly have the players to work with in their quest to build a formidable Pirates side, but they still need to integrate some of the new players with the rest of the squad and work on the philosophy of the team.

The only new players that has seen game time at the club are Goodman Mosele, Bandile Shandu, Ntsako Makhubela, and Kwame Peprah, while the likes of Olisa Ndah, Kwanda Mngonyama, who recently returned from an injury lay off are yet to make their official debut for the Buccaneers.
