Peprah shines again as Pirates down AmaZulu

This was his second brace in a row.

Kwame Peprah was once again the hero for Orlando Pirates, as he orchestrated the Buccaneers comeback by scoring two goals to beat AmaZulu FC 2-1 in the DStv Premiership clash at the Orlando Stadium on Thursday night.

This was his second brace in a row after helping the club beat Sekhukhune United in their previous fixtures, where they also had to fight their way back into the match, taking his goal to four this campaign.

The win over Usuthu meant Bucs will head into the Christmas break occupying second spot on the log with 30 points after 19 games, whereas the Durban based outfit are in fifth spot with 27 points having played 20 games.

It was an electrifying start for AmaZulu and that worked well for them as they took the lead with less than five minutes in the game. Thabo Qalinge’s pass met up with Luvuyo Memela who was on a run towards the Pirates poles, and he made no mistake beating Siyabonga Mpontshane to put the visitors in front.

AmaZulu were starting to be under pressure from the Buccaneers, with the KwaZulu-Natal side finding themselves defending for the most part of the half.

Pirates’ technical team were forced to make a change early in the match, after Kwanda Mngonyama suffered an injury and he was replaced by Abel Mabaso.

But, the change didn’t disrupt the teamvand after a long time of knocking on Usuthu’s poles, Pirates would go into half-time having equalised after Peprah scored from close range thanks to a Deon Hotto cross.

From the break with only three minutes played, Pirates would be the ones who enjoy a good start, as Peprah extended his team’s lead and registered a brace for himself to make it 2-1.

It was now Usuthu’s turn to chase the game, but they looked to be a different side than the one that played in the first 45 minutes. Pirates introduced Zakhele Lepasa, who has been out of the team since last year in December. The striker was involved in some of the Bucs late attacks to seal the game, but they could not get one more goal, however, they ended up walking away with full points.
