Fadlu Davids finally got what he wanted from his Orlando Pirates players, playing good football and scoring goals, as they defeated Stellenbosch FC 3-0 at Danie Craven Stadium on Wednesday.

Davids and his co-coach Mandla Ncikazi have been worried about the misfiring in front of goals by their charges, but it’s something that they expected would come soon, unfortunately for Stellies, they were the victims as Pirates outplayed them and forcing the side from the Mother City to make school boy errors at the back.
The Bucs co-coach was ecstatic with the victory and says scoring has been the only thing missing from their previous matches.
“Happy with the performance, especially in the first 15 minutes of the game, which we normally dominate. We dominated the first 30 minutes of the matches, but the difference was that we were able to score in our dominant period. So, I’m really pleased about that. Getting the upper hand and being able to manage that for both halves,” said Davids.
“We have been quite successful in our high press, winning balls in dangerous areas. Not capitalizing on it previously, but now we were winning the ball high on the pitch and scoring from that.”
Pirates’ winger Deon Hotto had a fantastic game on the day, assisting with the first goal, before scoring a brace, which saw him being named man-of-the-match at full-time. Davids adds that it was important for them to use the Namibian to his strengths and lauded him for his display.
“We had to use Hotto to his strength, trying to get behind the right-full-back. Really in terms of the quality of balls that came into his area and of course his pace, then the composure to be able to get the first assist. But his movement was superb and that was exactly what we wanted.”
The Buccaneers have now been able to collect 18 points in their last twelve games and they sit in seventh place on the league table, while Stellies remain in second place with 21 points from the same number of matches.
