Stellenbosch FC made a bold statement of intent in the Carling Knockout by smoothly advancing past Polokwane City in the quarter-finals on Friday evening.

They sealed the deal with a convincing 2-0 victory over Polokwane, who had previously shown their strength by defeating SuperSport United 4-1 in the first round.
Stellenbosch FC’s performance sends a clear message to their fellow contenders in the tournament that they want this to be their first ever cup trophy.
Polokwane faced a challenging situation with their inspirational coach, Lehlohonolo Seema, away in Lesotho to attend his father’s funeral.
As expected, it wasn’t going to be an easy game for them.
Stellenbosch FC got off to the start they were hoping for, finding the back of the net just seven minutes into the match.
A well-executed attacking move led to Iqraam Rainers getting the ball at his feet, and he calmly slotted it past the goalkeeper from close range, showing his experience as a striker.
Seven minutes later, in the 15th minute, Stellenbosch FC extended their lead. Devon Titus capitalised on a defensive error and expertly placed the ball beneath the advancing Polokwane keeper.
Polokwane attempted to regain their footing in the game, but they appeared disorganised and struggled to establish a rhythm.
As the first half concluded with the visitors leading 2-0, the stage was set for Polokwane to mount a comeback in the second half.
But despite having a better grip on possession in the second half, Polokwane struggled to deliver the right passes in the final third, failing to threaten Stellenbosch.
Stellies’ defence remained resolute, and it appeared that Polokwane was more likely to concede than to make a comeback in the game.
With this victory, Stellenbosch FC became the first team to secure a spot in the semi-finals draw, scheduled for Monday evening.
The remaining three Carling Knockout games will be played on Saturday, with a notable doubleheader at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban taking centre stage.

The headline match features Richards Bay facing Orlando Pirates at 3:30 pm, followed by Golden Arrows taking on AmaZulu at 7 pm.
