"They have to be supportive with them as well as with the new coach,” Riveiro said.

Outgoing Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has urged the club fans to be patient and support the incoming coach and his young players.

The Spaniard was speaking after his side’s 3-0 win over Golden Arrows at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday in what was his last game in charge of the Buccaneers.

“They (the fans) must be patient with them (the young players). They have to be supportive with them as well as with the new coach,” Riveiro told SuperSport TV.

“Whoever is coming in, is coming with the intention to help the team go to the next level, to help the project go forward, to help the players to become better players. So it’s important that the fans also have a decent amount of patience with him and support him in the beginning because he’s going to need it

Asked if he had any regrets of leaving the Buccaneers after a successful three-year stay at the Soweto giants, Riveiro said: “Regrets? No, I don’t have any regrets. I gave everything I have. I’m not perfect. I make mistakes in many different situations, but I did everything with heart, I did everything to the best of my capacity and I always put myself as the last one in the queue. I tried to work hard for my players and the club so there’s no regrets.

Riveiro coy on future

According to reports, Riveiro is set to replace Marcel Koller as the new head coach of Egyptian giants Al-Ahly.

The Spaniard gave a diplomatic answer when asked where he will be headed next after leaving the Buccaneers.

“To be honest with you, I wish [I can tell you] but I can’t. You know these things of confidentiality and stuff like that, so it’s not me who has the responsibility to announce such a thing.

“But it’s [the announcement about his next club] going to be very soon. I think that everybody will be understanding and hopefully happy for me and wishing me all the best,” concluded Riveiro.
