The news of the termination, which strangely with just a month left on the contract anyway, was confirmed by Sundowns on Saturday afternoon.

“The contract between Mamelodi Sundowns and Andile Ernest Jali which was due to conclude at the end of the current season, has been terminated by mutual consent,” reads a statement by the club.

“The former Bafana Bafana international joined Sundowns in June 2018 ahead of the 2018/19 seasons, and has been at Chloorkop for five (5) campaigns.

“During his stay at Sundowns, the midfielder played 142 matches and has been crowned a champion five times, making him one of the most decorated players in the PSL.

“The influential player was part of two domestic treble winning Sundowns teams and achieved the same feat before he joined the club.

“We thank Andile for his contribution and wish him well for the future. The club and its supporters will fondly remember his performances for Ka Bo Yellow.”

Jali and Sundowns relationship soured

Jali had not been playing at Sundowns since February when he was suspended by the club. This was following allegations that he had arrived at training under the influence of alcohol.

The relationship between him and the club is said to have  soured badly in the last few months and he had even stopped training at all.

Jali recently trended on social media after a TikTok video showed him holding an alcoholic beverage and appearing drunk while on a motorbike tour with friends.

The statement didn’t mention the reasons for an early extension and suggested that he would not get a winners medal for this season’s DStv Premiership title.

It listed Jali as having won only five Premiership titles with the side, but this season was his sixth.
