Since joining Babina Noko, head coach Brandon Truter has been a revelation for the side as he has also helped them move up the DStv Premiership log.
After beating Chippa United 2-1 to advance to the Nedbank Cup last four, Truter could not have been more proud of his team’s landmark effort, as the side have reached the last-four of any competition for the first time.
“It was a great victory for the club and it is our first victory over Chippa. It could not have come at a better time because we are in the semis and everyone is happy. All the credit goes to the technical team and the players,” said Truter.
Sekhukhune took a first minute lead through Elias Mokwana, and while Chippa equalised through Etiosa Ighodaro in the 17th minute, Chibuike Ohizo netted for Truter’s side two minutes before half-time and they never relinquished that lead.
“We always knew how dangerous they are from set-plays but that (Chippa’s goal) was down to mis-communication between the defender and the goalkeeper so that is something we need to work on,” said Truter.
“I am happy that we got more composed after their goal and we scored before half time, which is the best time to score,” he added.
Meanwhile, in DStv Premiership action, Gavin Hunt’s SuperSport United side are away to strugglers Marumo Gallants today.
Matsatsantsa A Pitori, who have occupied the second spot for most of the season will look to reclaim it as they are currently tied on 43 points with the Buccaneers, who have a greater goal difference.
Raymond Mdaka’s Gallants team, on the other hand, will try to extend their unbeaten run to six games. Marumo are three points away from reaching the 30-point mark, which is usually the safety net to avoid automatic relegation or going to the promotion/relegation playoffs.
