Van Heerden changes mind on joining Chiefs

Former Orlando Pirates defender Marc Van Heerden has changed his mind about joining Kaizer Chiefs and opted to return to the club that gave him his first break in the Absa Premiership AmaZulu FC.

Phakaaathi Plus reported on Friday morning’s paper that Van Heerden was set to sign for Amakhosi but a source close to the player has revealed that he changed his mind.

“He is no longer going to Chiefs. AmaZulu came with an offer he liked and he felt he would be happier away from Johannesburg. He has been unhappy in Johannesburg as there were incidents that happened he was uncomfortable with.

“He was once almost hijacked and felt his family is unsafe here. Such things never happened to him while he was in Durban,” said the source. Van Heerden will start training with Usuthu on Monday.

Phakaaathi understands that there were also some contractual issues which he could not agree on with Chiefs that made him decide against going there. Amakhosi are in need of a capable and experienced left back since they released Tsepo Masilela and Sibusiso Khumalo.
