Pirates official dismisses Mokwena exit rumours

Orlando Pirates administrative manager Floyd Mbele has rubbished reports suggesting that caretaker coach Rulani Mokwena has been sacked by the club.

According to a source close to the club, his assistant Fadlu Davids is now in charge of the team as Mokwena was told to stop managing the team.

Mbele has explained why Mokwena wasn’t at Pirates’ training sessions. The Pirates official says the squad was given time off during the international break.

Reports suggest that Pirates management were not happy with losing to Kaizer Chiefs twice in as many weekends and sacked Mokwena.

“There is no such. That’s nonsense. The team was given off a couple of days due to the Fifa (international) week,” Mbele was quoted by Daily Sun.

“He (Rhulani) was sick, and when you are sick do you force someone to come to training? You can’t force him to come to work when he is not well.”
