Referee erred in giving Chiefs the penalty in Soweto derby – Ncobo

Retired referee Ace Ncobo is convinced that Kaizer Chiefs striker Bernard Parker dived to win his side the winning penalty in the Soweto derby.

Parker came off the bench to win a penalty and the winning goal for Chiefs in the 3-2 victory over Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium last Saturday.

Reviewing the goal on a television show, Ncobo shared Pirates coach Rulani Mokwena’s sentiments that Parker was not fouled and that he dived.

“The defender hit the ground trying to get to the ball, but he didn’t touch the player. What we don’t see is if the defender’s leg catches the striker,” Ncobo told Extra Time.

“The only time the defender could have committed a foul is if there was contact. Had the ref seen that there was no contact he would have given the striker (Parker) a card for simulation.”
