WATCH: Sharks star in dodgy Backstreet Boys video!

But at least the Durbanites are having some fun before Saturday's Currie Cup semi against the Lions.

Some say Robert du Preez’s Sharks play an old-fashioned brand of rugby … and they do it pretty well.

That philosophy clearly extends to their marketing efforts too!

To increase interest for this weekend’s Currie Cup semifinal against the Golden Lions at King’s Park, the Durbanites roped in five stars – Lwazi Mvovo, Robert du Preez jr, S’bu Nkosi, Tera Mtembu and Curwin Bosch – to sport smart casual wear and sunglasses while mimicking the lyrics to 90s heart-breakers The Backstreet Boys’ first hit.

Forgetting the corniness of the song itself, all five players are also cramped in a lift!

Coach Robert du Preez snr, a man known for his serious demeanour, on Thursday allowed himself a chuckle at the antics of his players.

“That’s a very good question, whether such fun has a positive effect,” he said.

“The boys will get nervous because some of them haven’t played in a playoff game yet. There’s a fantastic spirit in the team. It’s really been great.

“It’s nice to see the boys having fun off the field.”
