THREE RIVERS. – Outdoorsman Vaal Gas received a warm welcome from outdoor enthusiasts when it was originally opened by Barry Klein in the River Square Mall, opposite Wimpy, back in 1998. Barry, still the current owner, started Outdoorsman Vaal Gas as a fishing and camping store and in 2004 expanded to selling clothing.

Over time, the store’s focus shifted to offering mainly casual outdoor clothing, footwear and accessories. This was followed by a move to the position opposite Turn and Tender and Mug n Bean in the River Square Mall, where it remained for many years. The store became well-known for stocking brands such as Merrell (shoes), CAT (shoes), Crocs (shoes), Jeep (shoes), Salomon (shoes and clothing), Kakiebos (clothing) and Jeep (clothing). They recently also started stocking Wildebees (clothing), Boerboel (clothing) and On (performance shoes).

This year Outdoorsman Vaal Gas moved again, adjacent to Tip Top in the River Square Mall, where they implemented a store revitalisation project, renovating the interior to create a more modern look and authentic outdoor feel. Some exciting additional brands have been introduced, including Hurley (clothing and caps), Freedom of Movement (Vellies, leather handbags, leather wallets and leather purses), and Belaga (high quality performance socks).

“Our new store’s essence is to ‘Inspire your spirit of adventure’, which is what we want for all our customers,” says Marketing Manager Michele Klein Edwards. “We launched the new store on Friday, December 2, and the opening weekend was a great success. We believe Outdoorsman Vaal Gas will go from strength to strength and would like to thank our team for all their hard work in making the new store a reality.
