Get ready for the Midvaal Fast One!
The 2023 Midvaal Fast One Cycle Challenge takes place on Sunday, January 29.
MEYERTON. – After two years of sabbatical due to the Covid pandemic everything is finally back on track, ready to bring cyclists the excitement of the 2023 Midvaal Fast One Cycle Challenge. It takes place on Sunday, January 29. This is the fourth biggest road race in the country, receiving entries from Europe, Africa and country wide. The race is fast and flat, giving great seeding times.
This will be the 26th Fast One event and will start and finish at Midvaal Raceway in Meyerton.
Cyclists have three distance options to take part in, being 97km (R400), 50km (R300) or 28km (R180). Cyclists may use any traditional, tandem bicycle or E-bike. Recumbent bicycles are also allowed. The Fast One offers Elite, Juniors, Vets and Open Categories.
Cut off times for the 97km race are: 10:00 (at 26km), 10:50 (at 40km), 11:45 (at 57km), 12:15 (at 78km) and 12:30 (at 88km). Thereafter sweep vehicles will pick cyclists up and their bicycles will be tagged and transported safely back to the venue on bicycle trailers.
For safety reasons no person younger than 16 may enter the 97km race. Persons younger than 16 may enter the 50 or 28km routes provided that written consent is given by a parent or guardian. The age restriction for the 50km and 28km route is 10 years.
Hamnet Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Network makes use of The Fast One as a practice event for emergencies. They put tracking devices on their ambulances and sweeper vehicles to decide on scene the best service and fastest action in case of emergency. The emergency network have been requested to assist in various national disaster situations.
Wearing a helmet is compulsory, and all cyclists must have a CSA license. A day license can be bought when entering for the race. Participants that do not have a timing chip may enter but will not get an official timing result by Racetec.
This will be a day of fun and achievement with local radio station 90.6 FM providing entertainment. A beer garden will be set up with ample seating for spectators, and local vendors will supply refreshments. Cycle gear will be for sale and minor repairs will be done.
As main sponsor the Midvaal Municipality will have the opportunity to proudly show thousands of cyclists and supporters from all over the country its renowned hospitality, undoubtedly showcasing Midvaal as a desirable tourist and investors destination when the Cycle Challenge takes place on January 29.
