In 2009 Clinical Neurophysiologist Janet Bester acquired her B.Tech degree (Clinical Technology, Neurophysiology) Cum Laude at the Tshwane University of Technology. In 2012 she furthered her studies in Sweden, where she obtained a Diploma in EMG and Neurography at Uppsala University. On her return, Janet opened a private practice in the Vaal Triangle.
The Neuro and Sleep Diagnostics Lab opened its doors in 2012 in Vereeniging, extending branches to Heidelberg and Secunda soon after. All three branches, led by Janet, are equipped with the latest, advanced technology.
Neurophysiologist Chrisrie Kane obtained her B.Tech (Clinical Technology, Neurophysiology) at the Tshwane University of Technology in 2017 after which she joined Janet in private practice, where they now work side by side. Both are registered at the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
The Neuro and Sleep Diagnostics Laboratory is equipped with the latest, advanced technology. This expert team is dedicated to providing high quality, compassionate healthcare by performing Neurodiagnostic procedures for specialists such as Neurosurgeons, Orthopaedic Surgeons, Cardiologists, Pulmonologists, Internal medicine physicians, Paediatricians and Family Practice.
Neurodiagnostic studies are performed to diagnose various neurological conditions and disorders of the Peripheral and Central nervous system.

Neurodiagnostic studies include:
1) Electroencephalogram (EEG) monitoring.
“Recent advances in computer technology have brought a new era of EEG utilization, which has allowed us to record EEG continuously both at bed side and home. There has been a tremendous increase of long term EEG recording where a high incidence of seizures was found in patients with impaired consciousness, not showing clinical signs of seizures, for example non-convulsive seizures. EEG can assist in the diagnosis of a variety of neurological problems such as headaches, dizziness, seizure disorders, strokes, head trauma, anoxic cerebral insult, toxic or metabolic encephalopathy,” explains Janet.

2) Sleep Apnoea studies.
The Neuro and Sleep Diagnostic Laboratory’s team are also experts in diagnosing different types of Sleep Apnoea such as Obstructive- Central- and Complex Sleep Apnoea, after which correct type of treatment (CPAP, BIPAP, ASV) is recommended.

3) Electromyography / Nerve Conduction studies
The diagnosis & evaluation of muscle and nerve disorders, such as Compression neuropathies, Peripheral neuropathies, Radiculopathies, Guillain Barre syndrome & Plexopathies.
