Democratic Alliance (DA) mourns one of its own
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has announced with sadness the passing of one of its Councillors, Lilac Alfred who died on Saturday morning after a short illness.
VEREENIGING.- Alfred was elected Councillor after the 2021 local government elections and was part of the DA’s Caucus in ELM.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, DA Leader in the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM), Tebogo Tlhokwe, said that Alfred was well known by her colleagues, family and friends for her zest for life, humbleness and the love she had for God.
“The Democratic Alliance will remember her passion in wanting to build a better South Africa for all. We will miss her more than words can express as she was not just our co-worker but a good friend as well.”
Meanwhile the ELM Speaker, Sibongile Soxuza, on behalf of the ELM, also sent her condolences and said that Alfred was always willing to help, and known for her drive to build a better Emfuleni for all.

“On behalf of ELM and the people of Emfuleni, we want to offer our heartfelt condolences to Alfred’s family and friends. They should be so proud of Lilac, who was liked and respected by her fellow councillors across all political parties for her thoughtful, and respectful character. In our eyes, her life was fulfilled and will be long remembered by her dedication to God, and service.”
Soxuza ended by saying that Alfred’s good example and service to the ELM had been greatly admired and will be sadly missed.
“Cllr. Alfred was very dependable and as such, we shall always honour her for her hard work and dedication for her community.”
The DA said that Alfred will be laid to rest on Sunday, October 2022 and that she will be afforded a state (municipal) funeral .
