3 trespassers murdered, 1 critical following midnight attack
“I can’t tell you what was fought for but all I know is that there was a huge fight and many dead bodies.”
EVATON. – Three men were murdered and one left in critical condition after being beaten with a knobkerrie by two relatives in Evaton.
This is after the quartet trespassed at a home in Bates Road in the early hours of Wednesday, February 22, and found the owner of the shack wide awake.
Screams of helpless cries from the trespassers was order of the day as the shack owner hacked them to death.
Police were called to the scene and arrived to three dead bodies and a bleeding, unconscious man.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Elizabeth Mkhwanazi (75), mother to the owner of the shack, who remains behind bars on charges of murder said she was woken up by screams.
“I was drinking pills at midnight when my grandchild came screaming in my bedroom saying there is a big fight in my son’s shack. I went out to see what was happening. From a distance, all I could hear as I was approaching was shack bangs and voices of men screaming. I peeped and saw people fighting, immediately turned back and called the police,” she said.
Elizabeth said when she went back to the shack, all she could see was dead bodies.
“I saw men lying on the floor and asked my son what happened, but he couldn’t talk. Police arrived and removed the three bodies. One man was taken by an ambulance,” she said.
“I can’t tell you what was fought for but all I know is that there was a huge fight and many dead bodies. Police took my sons saying they going to ask them questions,” she said.
The visibly shaken old lady said the incident wasn’t the first.
“Last year, about six men ambushed my son and shoot him six times. When I heard gunshot, I went outside and saw them running away. Nothing was done then,” she said.
Sedibeng Cluster police spokesman Sergeant Shaan Motsapi said two men were arrested on three counts of murder and assault.
“We learnt that there was a fight at the residence and three people died after being assaulted. The bodies had opened wounds. At this moment, we can’t detail the motive of the fight however investigations are underway. Two suspects were arrested,” he said.
