ATM bombing shakes Sebokeng filling station
The explosive blast not only damaged an ABSA Automated Teller Machine (ATM) machine but also startled nearby residents.
Sebokeng – During the early hours of Thursday, October 5, a group of armed men carried out a brazen ATM bombing and business robbery at the Global garage in Sebokeng, Zone 12.
Heavily armed with firearms and explosives, the gang held the station’s staff hostage while committing a series of crimes.
Gunshots and explosions were reported as the gang continued their criminal activities.
The explosive blast not only damaged an ABSA Automated Teller Machine (ATM) machine but also startled nearby residents.
After the bombing, the perpetrators forcibly entered the station’s building and proceeded to empty the cash registers, making off with an undisclosed sum of money.
Police spokesperson, Captain Teboho Lephoto confirmed that the incident occurred at around 3:00.
He stated that the suspects initially bombed the ATM machine outside before entering the building to steal money from the tills. At the time of the statement, no suspects had been arrested, and fortunately, no fatalities were reported.
Lephoto expressed deep concern about the incident and called on the public to assist the police in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
