VANDERBIJLPARK – Tseko Mahlatsi, who faced a social media backlash when he initially joined the Crime Prevention Wardens (CPW) group, has now emerged as a dedicated and successful crime fighter. He was recently honoured with the prestigious Dedicated Member of the CPF award in the District Commissioner Special Award category at the Sedibeng Cluster Police Awards Ceremony held at the Emerald in Vanderbijlpark.
Mahlatsi’s journey to this remarkable achievement is truly inspirational. When he first joined the CPW, he faced criticism and doubt about his capabilities on social media.
However, instead of breaking his spirit, this criticism became a motivating force, driving him to excel further in his commitment to fighting crime.
In an interview with Ster South at the ceremony, Mahlatsi described his journey working with Boipatong police. He began as a member of the Youth Crime Prevention Desk in 2017 and was later elected as the chairperson of the Youth Desk. He was appointed as the Treasurer of the CPF, then moved on to become its secretary, and later joined the Crime Prevention Wardens.
Mahlatsi explained that he had initially wanted to become a teacher, but the increasing crime in his community motivated him to join the youth desk, ultimately leading to his membership in the CPW.
He was deeply concerned about the level of crime in Boipatong and saw his involvement as a way to combat this problem.
When Mahlatsi was brought to the awards ceremony as a plus-one, he was taken by surprise when he was called to the stage to receive his award. He expressed his disbelief and gratitude for the honour, attributing it to divine intervention. This award, he noted, serves as motivation to continue working tirelessly to combat crime.
Mahlatsi also expressed his gratitude to those who supported him throughout his journey in the crime-fighting field, giving special thanks to Major General Lemba for the award and mentioning individuals like Sergeant Maketekete, Ramakgetheng, and Colonel Mokoena, without whom he wouldn’t have reached this point in his career.
