“Super green angel” saves seizure patient at graveyard

“I was just doing my daily job," said a heroine who saved the day.”

VANDERBIJLPARK – What started as a sincere send off at Vanderbijlpark cemetery turned into a scene straight out of ‘The Good Doctor’.

This comes after a fearless paramedic, Phumelele Masimini stepped up and saved a man’s life during a graveyard emergency.

On the day, Masimini was attending a funeral with her drilling when chaos struck.

A mourner began fitting during one of the services, instigating panicked cries for help by nearby mourners.

Without hesitation, dubbed the “Super Green Angel” by awe-struck mourners, Masimini’s medic instincts kicked in and she saved the day.

Speaking to Ster, the 26-year-old medic said she found the man placed on the ground with a scissor in his mouth to prevent him from biting himself as he was seizing uncontrollably.

“I ran to the patient and found him on the ground, trembling,” she recounted. Calm and focused, she removed the scissors and quickly positioned him on his left side to stabilise him.

With a response vehicle nearby, a colleague fetched a jump bag and oxygen tank, equipping Masimini with what she needed to take control of the situation.

“I applied an IV line and maintained his oxygen. Within minutes, the man was stabilized, his life saved thanks to the quick reaction of my team,” she said.

Masimini thanked her team comprising Mfana Bobi, Kopano Bodibe, Pakiso Mnguni, and Simelani for their efforts.

Despite the online fame after being posted on social media pages by mourners who couldn’t hold back their admiration, Masimini remained humbled.

“I was just doing my daily job. That’s what being a medic is all about, being ready to save lives, no matter the place or situation. We are always ready to help,” she said.
