Gauteng Police recover 776 unlicensed firearms
776 illegal guns off Gauteng streets in just 3 months.
Gauteng Police have recovered 776 unlicensed firearms and 2 030 rounds of ammunition between July 1 and September 30.
During the three months, 247 suspects were arrested for illegal possession of firearms and 224 for possession of ammunition. The recovered firearms include automatic rifles, complete firearms, revolvers /pistols, rifles, and shotguns, some with serial numbers filed off.
In a statement, SAPS said its members remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of communities through continued efforts to combat crime and prevent the proliferation of firearms.
“This achievement demonstrates the effectiveness of proactive policing efforts and collaborative work with other law enforcement agencies, private security companies, and government departments.”
