Mayor warns over substation delays

The Mayor of the Emfuleni Local Municipality has given the electricity department until July 1 to commission transformer.

The Executive Mayor of the Emfuleni Local Municipality, Hassan Mako, has instructed the municipality’s electricity department to commission a new power transformer at the Town Substation by July 1.

According to the municipality, Mako recently conducted an oversight inspection at the Town Substation, where upgrades and transformer commissioning works are underway.

He was accompanied by Public Works and Infrastructure MMC Nkosinathi Ndwandwe, Finance and Revenue MMC Makgala Lesoane, Municipal Manager April Ntuli and technical officials from the municipality’s electricity department.

The municipality said the inspection focused on progress with work required to commission the new transformer and increase the substation’s capacity.

According to the municipality, the refurbishment of the Town Substation is a multi-million-rand investment that is intended to separate electricity distribution between Town North and Town South consumers.

The municipality said the project is aimed at improving the electricity supply for affected consumers.
