ORANGE FARM – Retired police official Goodness Ntombi Sizani now serves as a Medical and Community Chaplain at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, one of Africa’s largest hospitals.

Sizani is also an ordained pastor at Maranatha Church.

For more than a decade, Orange Farm and the wider Vaalrand knew her as a familiar and steadfast presence.

In uniform, she moved through the community not only as a police official, but as someone deeply connected to the people she served. Her commitment was rooted in protecting, assisting and serving the community.

When she eventually hung up her boots, the calling did not end. It simply changed its uniform.

Today, Sizani walks the corridors of Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, a major trauma-care institution.

Her work extends far beyond the hospital gates.

Through the Medical and Community Chaplaincy (MCC), she continues to serve the same Orange Farm community she once policed.

She provides immediate crisis intervention, supports the assessment and management of traumatic encounters, and works to ensure that victims of crime and people experiencing crisis are not left to navigate their circumstances alone.

Through counselling, spiritual care and support structures, Sizani helps individuals and families find a path forward during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

As a retired police official, she understands the language of trauma. As an ordained pastor and chaplain, she understands the deeper language of the soul.

Together, these experiences have shaped a unique form of service, one that recognises that behind every incident is a person who may need to be heard, supported and restored.

Whether standing beside a patient in a hospital ward or supporting a community member facing a crisis, Sizani continues to embody a simple principle: no person should become invisible.
