Angry families deny Jub Jub apologised to them

'How can we forgive him if he never came to us to apologise?' one of the family members reportedly said.

Families of Molemo ‘Jub Jub’ Maarohanye’s crash victims have come out to deny the musician’s statement that he had made contact with them.

Jub Jub had his first interview on Thursday since his release in January and said he had spoken to the families of the victims. He said, however, that his parole conditions did not allow him to disclose the contents of the conversation, though he said he would share the profits of his new single, ‘Ke kopa Tshwarelo’, with the families.

But the families reportedly told Daily Sun on Thursday that Jub Jub has never spoken to them, visited them or even apologised for the accident. Edwin Masemola, one of the victims’ family members, reportedly told the tabloid that the artist may have met other families, but not his. “How can we forgive him if he never came to us to apologise?” Masemola was quoted as saying.

A family member of one of his victims Prince Mohube, Joyce Mtonga, reportedly heard about Jub Jub’s interview in a taxi on her way to work. She reportedly told the tabloid that despite his claims that he had visited families of the victims, he never spoke to hers. Jub Jub was only looking for attention, she said.

Another one, Ian Mthombeni, also said the rapper never apologised to his family. He further said he would not “sell out” his son by meeting his killer.

Since his return, Jub Jub has released an apology song, ‘Ke Kopa Tshwarelo’, that has been praised by his fans. In the song, he apologises to the families for the 2010 incident that he “will have to live with for the rest of my life” and “will haunt me for the rest of my life”.

He will be sharing the profits of the song with the families.

“I wanna say thank you to my loyal fans, to those who I made angry and everybody else that I disappointed – those of you that I know and those that I don’t know. I really sincerely from the bottom of my heart appreciate the love and support. And I wish the same support also goes to the families of the deceased.”
