‘It still feels surreal,’ says Connie a month after Shona’s death

Shona died on 30 July aged 47, due to Covid-19-related complications. He was laid to rest at a private ceremony in Ruimsig, Johannesburg, a few days later.


Exactly a month after producer and actor Shona Ferguson’s death, his wife Connie Ferguson has taken to social media to pay tribute to him.

Shona died on 30 July aged 47, due to Covid-19-related complications. He was laid to rest at a private ceremony in Ruimsig, Johannesburg, a few days later.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, Connie said that her husband was no longer with her was “surreal”.

She said in part: “Exactly a month today and it still feels surreal. It’s always been said that legends never die! Only now do I really understand that saying…”

Connie further sent her condolences to families of those who have lost loved ones, encouraging them to cherish memories they have with them.

“May everyone who’s lost a loved one find comfort in God’s promise, cherish the earthly memories lived, celebrate the legacy left behind, remain steadfast in mind and be kept in perfect peace, because they trust in the Lord,” she said.

Connie’s pre-recorded message to husband Shona left those who were watching the proceedings in tears as they prayed for her to be able to move on after such a devastating loss.

“I thought you and I were going to grow old together. That is what I saw for myself, that is what I saw for us. That has always been the dream. 31 July was exactly 20 years together, I anticipated another 20 years,” she said.

“My husband loved hard and most importantly loved the Lord hard, unashamedly. Our love does not die, you continue on in my heart, in my children’s heart. Thank you, Shonie for everything.”
