Shona Ferguson’s memory lives on as he bags US award for ‘Kings of Jo’Burg’

Connie announced that Shona Ferguson had won a Hollywood and African Prestigious Award for Best Lead in a TV Series.


The late Shona Ferguson’s legacy and memory continues to live on months after the devastating news of his passing, as the actor and producer bagged an international award for his role in the Netflix series Kings of Jo’Burg.

A week ago, Connie Ferguson took to social media to announce the exciting news that her husband had been nominated for a Hollywood and African Prestigious Award for the Best Lead in a TV Series.

“My dear husband, I always told you that you were my favorite actor to work with, and probably one of the most underrated in this country,” said Connie in her Instagram post.

“Your talent was beyond! How you committed to each character you portrayed always left me in awe! You will never be forgotten! Ever!

“I have always been proud of you, and you continue to make us proud beyond the grave! God is good. Bravo Mr. Sho! Bravo!”

Elated at the news, Connie announced on Instagram that Shona had won the award.

“I am beyond elated for this win! Your passion, your drive, your creative genius and your undeniable talent went unrecognised for the longest time, but that never discouraged nor deterred you from your plans and vision for Ferguson Films.

“To say I’m proud of my husband would be the biggest understatement! This guy! This guy! Not only was he the biggest dreamer but also the hardest worker in the room! Boss extraordinaire! With the brightest smile and heartiest laughter! Sorely missed but fondly remembered by all!

“Congratulations hubby! We receive this in your honour! May the memory of you never fade in people’s minds and hearts! You are loved by many, and remembered for how you touched people’s lives and the difference you made to them! You continue to inspire beyond the grave! You truly are one of a kind! Chosen to defy death,” said the actress.

Shona played the role of Simon “Vader” Masire, the charming head of the family’s criminal business. Throughout the show he convinces his brother, Mogomotsi Masire, to return to a life of crime after he was released from prison.

It is also revealed that Simon has a secret family, which he later sacrifices to honour the supernatural family curse.
