26 exciting series, movies and more to stream this October

'You' makes its season-three return and there's a new sport documentary focusing on Hansie also worth watching.


It’s a new month, which means new series to check out on your favourite steaming platforms. Here’s a complete breakdown of what to stream this October 2021.

Highlights this month include the return of the popular series, You, which sees everyone’s favourite stalker, serial killer played impeccably by Penn Badgley, return for what promises to be a gripping season three on Netflix

If you’re into documentaries, then Bad Sport on Netflix also should make for binge-worthy TV as one of the episodes takes a look at late SA cricket captain Hansie Cronje’s fall from grace.

Series

MAID – Netflix

After fleeing an abusive relationship, a young mother finds a job cleaning houses as she fights to provide for her child and build them a better future.

Paik’s Spirit – Netflix

Drinks keep the conversation flowing as culinary star Paik Jong-won and celebrity guests talk life, food and booze over intoxicating meals.

You (season three) – Netflix

Now married with a young baby, Love and Joe try to forge a normal life in the affluent suburb of Madre Linda. But old habits die hard.     

     

Angeliena – Netflix

After a string of life-changing revelations, a beloved parking attendant pieces a new plan together and chases her dream of travelling the world.

Resident Alien – Showmax

Based on the Dark Horse comic, Syfy’s Resident Alien is a murder mystery sci-fi dramedy that follows Harry, an alien played by Alan Tudyk (Rogue One, Firefly) who crash lands on Earth and passes himself off as a human small-town doctor. 

The L Word: Generation Q (season two) Showmax

In this sequel to the groundbreaking, Emmy-nominated 2004-2009 series, Golden Globe nominee Jennifer Beals (Flashdance), Kate Moennig (Ray Donovan, Grown-ish) and Leisha Hailey (CSI) reprise their original roles alongside a new generation of diverse, self-possessed LGBTQIA+ characters as they take on love, heartbreak, sex, setbacks and success in LA. 

Chucky (season one) – Showmax

A vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, throwing an idyllic American town into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begins to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets in the brand-new series Chucky, which picks up after the events of the seventh film in the horror franchise, Cult of Chucky

Love Island (season two) – Showmax

Following a delay due to the pandemic, the second season of Love Island USA was moved from Fiji to The Cromwell, a casino hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. With strict quarantine measures in place, for the 31 “islanders” the isolation is real as they couple and re-couple under the watchful eye of host Arielle Vandenberg over 40 days in a bid to win the $100,000 prize.

Forever Rich – Netflix

There’s Someone Inside Your House – Netflix 

Makani and her friends at Osborne High School try to identify and stop a masked killer who’s targeting students and exposing their biggest secrets.

Bad Sport – Netflix
