Trevor Noah is back on SA screens with new comedy series

Beloved comedian Trevor Noah will host Amazon Prime Video's South African version of its comedy show - 'LOL: Last One Laughing'.


The fans of Trevor Noah will see much more of the talented TV host and comedian with two new shows lined up.

Noah has primarily focused on his standup comedy since he left The Daily Show late last year. 

However, the comedian has been announced as one of Amazon Prime Video’s new show hosts.

First in South Africa

It was announced on Tuesday, that Noah will host the first South African version of Amazon Prime Video’s original comedy series LOL: Last One Laughing. 

The show has been described as an unscripted comedy series which will see famous comedians and entertainers competing to see who can keep a straight face while telling their competitor a joke. 

LOL: Last One Laughing, an American original has already been adapted in 20 other countries including Mexico, Germany and Australia. 

Variety magazine reported the winner will walk away with R1 million, however, this will go to the chosen comedian’s charity.

Noah said he was excited to host the first LOL: Last One Laughing series in South Africa and get the opportunity to work alongside his compatriots.  

He told Variety: “I am equally delighted for the opportunity to be working alongside my fellow home-grown comedy stars on a show that not only entertains but gives back to the South African production and charity communities”.

Ned Mitchell, head of Africa and Middle East Originals at Amazon said in a statement they were excited to bring Noah back on SA screens. 

“Comedy, in all its forms, shines among South Africa’s most valuable treasures. Together with an A-list roster of this country’s incredible home-grown comedic talent competing for a great charitable cause, Trevor and Prime Video are demonstrating the depth of our shared ambition to invest and elevate the very best of South Africa for audiences locally and around the world.”

The production of the show is in coordination with South Africa’s Rapid Blue and in partnership with Noah’s Day Zero Productions. The release date of the show has yet been announced.

Noah and Roger Federer’s Swiss Odessey 

With Trevor Noah’s mixed-race background well known amongst admirers of his comedy, as it has become the core of his storytelling, the half-Swiss and half-South African will go on a tour of his father’s country, Switzerland.

This tour was done with tennis legend Roger Federer who has a similar mixed nationality background.
