‘Bad Boys’ star Eric Dane wheelchair-bound following ALS diagnosis

'Grey's Anatomy' actor was diagnosed with the condition in April

American actor Eric Dane is reportedly wheelchair bound as he continues his battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

ALS is a progressive nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. It gradually leads to loss of muscle control.

Dane revealed in April this year that he had been diagnosed with the condition.

Earlier this week, the 52-year-old Grey’s Anatomy actor was reportedly spotted at Toronto airport. According to the New York Post, he was assisted out of his car and into a wheelchair, looking “much thinner than usual”.

The actor announced on Instagram that he has partnered with the support organisation I AM ALS. Together, they have launched a campaign called Push for Progress, which aims to expand access to ALS treatment.

The campaign has set a goal of $1 billion (approximately R17.3 billion) in donations. Dane said the funds would help renew the Landmark Law Act for ALS and provide promising treatments to patients.

“For over a century, ALS has been incurable, and we’re done accepting the status quo. We need the fastest path to a cure. That’s why I partnered with I AM ALS on Push for Progress,” he said.

He added: “Together, we’ll give promising treatments to thousands of patients like me and push toward ending this disease. There’s so much more to learn, more to do, and we have to do it now.”
