How Bella Hadid’s ‘straight eyebrows’ set a new social media trend

The shape of Bella Hadid's eyebrows has set a new social media trend known as the 'straight brow' trend and TikTokkers can't get enough of it.

They frame the face, convey expressions, and now seem to be an obsession among younger generations. Eyebrows are the focus of much attention on TikTok, where trends come thick and fast, always bringing something new. After skinny brows and bleached brows, the latest look is straight brows, notching up millions of views on the Chinese social network.

If you’re content with simply keeping your brows tidy and maybe filling them in a little, then you’re a million miles from the trends of the moment.

Bella Hadid’s influence

Today, younger generations seem to change their eyebrows like they change their shirts. In just a few months, we’ve gone from thick, full eyebrows, billed as the trend of the year, to ultra-thin, noughties-inspired eyebrows, another would-be trend of the year, then to bleached or tattooed brows — you guessed it, another supposed trend of the year.

And the merry-go-round of brow trends is far from over, as TikTok’s latest obsession is ‘straight brows,’ a look that hails straight from Bella Hadid.200 million viewsIt seems that those who recently embraced the thin eyebrow trend might struggle to copy the star model’s look, and yet ‘straight brows’ are all the rage today.

This new beauty inspiration already has nearly 200 million views on TikTok, and has given rise to a host of tutorials to create different styles. For once, it’s not the creativity of the Chinese social network’s users that is at the origin of this trend, but the American model, Bella Hadid. After sporting skinny brows last year, she now has straight and perfectly shaped eyebrows that her fans — and everyone else — seem to love.

The reason? This specific shape supposedly creates a face-lifting effect.

In practical terms, it’s about changing the line of the eyebrows so that they don’t bend down so much at the end. In other words, to get this must-have shape, the end part of the eyebrow must be shaved off or plucked in order to eliminate the arch that — by the way — serves as a vehicle of expression. What could go wrong?

Hair removal methods

Evidently, many TikTok users grabbed their razor to get rid of this unwanted natural shape, and get the same look as Bella Hadid. Something that is absolutely not recommended, for two reasons: if it goes wrong, the hair will take time to grow back, and as a bonus, the hair might not grow back in the right way.

It’s better to opt for waxing, but only if you know what you’re doing. When in doubt, it’s always best to entrust your eyebrows to a trained professional. And since trends come and go according to TikTok’s moods, it could be an even better idea to simply camouflage this part of the eyebrow with a little makeup, be it foundation or concealer. At least that way, you won’t end up doing something you later regret.
