Where to celebrate Champagne Day this year

By Renate Engelbrecht

Napoleon Bonaparte once said: “I drink champagne when I win, to celebrate, and I drink champagne when I lose, to console myself.”

Whether you’re celebrating or drowning your sorrows, we believe that on Friday a glass of bubbles is in order. Here are some of the best bubbly spots to try out:

Celebrate Champagne Day in style

As per usual, Tsogo Sun pulls out all the stops again this year in glamourous fashion with Moët & Chandon and Veuve Clicquot. The celebrations commence today and will last well into the evening on 31 October.

Gauteng residents can choose between six Tsogo Sun venues, including InterContinental OR Tambo Airport, Mount Grace Hotel & Spa, Palazzo, Sandton Sun, Southern Sun Hyde Park and Southern Sun Montecasino.

Tsogo Sun’s Western Cape hotels, Arabella Hotel, Golf & Spa, Southern Sun The Cullinan and Southern Sun Waterfront Cape Town will happily top up your bubbly glass for Champagne Day and in Kwazulu Natal you can either visit the Beverly Hills Hotel, Suncoast Towers or Southern Sun Elangeni and Maharani.

Whether you’re a fan of Moët & Chandon’s Brut Impérial or Veuve Clicquot’s Rosé, you’re sure to celebrate in style at any one of these destinations.

You can also spend one night in Paris at The Oyster Box’s Grill Room, complete with black ties, champagne and French cuisine. At R1,200 per person, the popular seaside destination will be hosting a black-tie, four-course dinner paired with Mumm Champagne on 22 October – a night to remember, that’s for sure.

The Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff’s Flames Restaurant is also a great Johannesburg-based venue to celebrate Champagne Day at, especially considering the fact that it’s jacaranda season and the views from there are breathtakingly beautiful.
