Singers head to auditions thanks to good Samaritan
Five young aspiring singers' dream of representing Lydenburg/Mashishing during the SA Idols auditions will finally come true on February 27 and 28.
MASHISHING – Five young aspiring singers’ dream of representing Lydenburg/Mashishing during the SA Idols auditions will finally come true on February 27 and 28.
This follows after Jabulane Maseko started an initiative to raise money for young singers who would like to audition, but couldn’t travel to Johannesburg due to financial constraints.
Khensane Mushwane, Duduzile Mkhabela, Melody Moshoane, Thabo Kgole and Mduduzi Langa were selected during a singing competition that was organised by Maseko a week ago in town.
When he first saw the 2016 SA Idols advert, something inside him said he needed to make a difference in someone’s life.
“My initial plan was to take only one talented person to audition, however, when I started asking for financial assistance through various platforms including social media, the public’s response was overwhelming and I realised that I could send more than one person.”
The next step was to invite aspiring singers to compete in the competition.
“The turnout was not very good although with the help of a team of judges we managed to select the best five. I believe they will put our town on the map.
“They are talented and passionate. We will fund their trip, accommodation and food,” he added.
“As part of their preparations for the auditions, they attend singing lessons to practise and train their voices. I have arranged with a choir conductor to assist me.”
According to one of the aspiring singers, Mduduzi, they are really excited and grateful to have the opportunity to audition for Idols.
