Penryn and Uplands are back in action on the sports field

As it has become the norm, Penryn and Uplands fought tooth and nail for bragging rights.

After having to skip one year due to the Covid-19 restrictions, colleges Penryn and Uplands returned to competitive action this past weekend.

Rainy weather made for challenging conditions and some of the matches had to be postponed to Monday.

As it has become the norm, Penryn and Uplands fought tooth and nail for bragging rights in their annual winter sports derby. Penryn hosted the first leg of the derby this weekend, but their home ground advantage did not mean much as they floundered many clashes.

“It has been a pleasure to host Uplands College this past weekend. Although the scoreboard did not favour Penryn, our scholars still gave it their all until the final whistle and celebrated their opponents in true Penryn spirit. It was so exciting to see all the happy faces on our beautiful campus, as this was our first interschool derby in over a year. Our teams will go back to the drawing board and work hard to ensure that we overturn the results next weekend when visiting Uplands. I would like to thank coaches and staff from both schools for making sure that all scholars enjoyed every moment, even during the pandemic, as this is always one fixture they all look forward to,” said head of sport, Xolani Grootboom.
