Aggressive old buffalo put down due to danger to residents

A lone buffalo was put down after repeated attempts to safely remove it from Marloth Park failed.

A drama with an aggressive old buffalo in Marloth Park ended with the animal being shot dead.

Apparently, the lone bull managed to break through the veterinary fence between Marloth Park and the Kruger National Park.

It is speculated that the bull could either have lost his way in Kruger or might have been chased by lions and then broke through the fence in one of the many ditches running under the fence.

Rangers from Marloth Park, as well as the state veterinarian in Hectorspruit, tried to drive the animal into Lionspruit, as it posed a danger to residents and tourists alike.

The buffalo charged at rangers as well as a ranger vehicle on numerous occasions.

The local veterinarian wasn’t available to assist with darting the animal.

“Due to the dangerous situation, the rangers had no other option than to put the animal down,” Deidré Joubert from Wild and Free Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre told Lowvelder.
