Police arrest 3, recover firearms after Calcutta bakkie hijacking

A suspected stolen vehicle traced to Bushbuckridge led officers to the suspects and an additional vehicle allegedly linked to the crime.

Police officers from the Illicit Mining Team have arrested three suspects and recovered two firearms after tracing a Nissan NP200 hijacked in Calcutta on September 9.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo, information led officers to Bushbuckridge, where they found the three suspects, the hijacked bakkie, and a second vehicle suspected of being used in the crime.

Suspects face court charges

The suspects are expected to appear in the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of possessing a suspected hijacked vehicle and unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
