Toyota to launch new Vitz in the second quarter

The Toyota Vitz will be a rebadge of the Suzuki Celerio, but not many details have been confirmed around the Vitz, though it was stated that it will ship with a 1.0L engine when it arrives in the country. It is likely that the power and torque figures will be 49kW and 89Nm, the same output of the Celerio 1.0L.

The Celerio is available in a five-speedmanual gearbox or a five-speed automated manual transmission (AMT), so there is a good chance that the Viz will launch with the same options. A very appealing aspect of the Suzuki, which is likely to be carried over to the Toyota, is the fuel consumption. Currently 4.4L/100km for the manual and 4.2L/100km for the AMT. It is also safe to assume that the Vitz will share more or less the same equipment as the Celerio. This has been the case with other Toyota-Suzuki co-efforts.

That being said, the spec base is anticipate to feature at least a multifunction steering wheel, engine stop-start function, ABS, rear parking sensors and manual air conditioning. Meanwhile higher trim levels may include additions such as 15-inch alloy wheels, electronically adjustable side mirrors, hill control, and a seven-inch infotainment unit with smartphone connectivity.

The existing Toyota Agya, as the cheapest line-up in 2023, is sold with a 1.0L drivetrain with either a five-speed manual or four-speed AMT, averaging 4.8L/100km and 4.9L/100km. It also comes standard with 14-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, manual AC, electric windows, two speakers and ABS. The Vitz will ultimately replace the Agya. Pricing for the Vitz is still unknown, however, its co-sibling has a window sticker of R178 900, while the Agya begins at R200 000. This gap is providing a good ballpark estimate of what the new Toyota Vitz will cost when it launches in South Africa in June.
