IN PHOTOS: Lowveld athletes excel at Speed and Relay Meeting

No fewer than 20 records were broken on both track and field on the day.

Hoërskool Rob Ferreira hosted the 15th annual Lowveld Speed and Relay Meeting on February 10, bringing together some of the best primary and high school athletes in the region.

The meet made for some exciting athletics, with 12 primary schools and five high schools taking part in the afternoon and evening. Conditions were perfect, as the weatherman offered up no rain but plenty of sunshine, followed by cool evening air.

The athletes were determined to blaze new trails – they showcased the hard work they’ve put in during training and proved they are ready for the upcoming inter-schools meets. A total of 20 records were broken.

The Citybug Lowveld Interprimary takes place on February 14, hosted by Laerskool Bergland at Hoërskool Nelspruit; the Sonop Interhoër takes place on February 21 at Hoërskool Lydenburg; and finally, the BUCO Lowveld Interhigh takes place at Lowveld High School on February 28.

The new records are:
• U9 girls 4x80m relay: Laerskool Laeveld – 51.95sec
• U9 boys 4x80m relay: Bergland – 48.12sec
• U10 girls 80m: Mika Swart (Bergland) – 11.43sec
• U10 girls 4x80m relay: Laeveld – 49.02sec
• U10 boys 4x80m relay: Nelspruit Primary – 46.52sec
• U11 boys 80m: Neil Gouws (Laerskool Nelspruit) – 10.99sec
• U13 girls high jump: Aimee Dippenaar (Nelspruit) – 1.45m
• U13 boys high jump: Kilan Kotzé (Nelspruit) – 1.4m
• U13 girls shot put: Savian Janse van Rensburg (Nelspruit) – 12.49m
• U13 girls long jump: Sofia Dimitriou (Uplands) – 4.23m
• U15 girls 100m: Awethu Ndashe (Hoërskool Rob Ferreira) – 12.95sec
• U15 girls 4x100m relay: Rob Ferreira – 54.73sec
• U16 girls 100m: Amber Mavuso (Rob Ferreira) – 13.18sec
• U19 girls 4x100m relay: Rob Ferreira – 54.46sec
• U19 boys high jump: Thabang Nkosi (Hoërskool Barberton) – 1.8m
• U19 boys javelin: Tylor Stoltz (Barberton) – 46m
• U19 girls long jump: Sonia Tivani (Rob Ferreira) – 4.73m
• U19 girls discus: Ilané Mostert (Rob Ferreira) – 27.14m
• U19 boys shot put: Anton de Beer (Rob Ferreira) – 11.84m
