In a powerful display of community collaboration, the Pristine Ladies Golf Club (PLGC), in partnership with South African Women in Construction (SAWiC), recently hosted a highly successful Executive Mayor’s Charity Golf Day powered by Emalangeni Technologies as the headline sponsor of the event.

The event, held at the scenic Kruger Park Lodge in Hazyview on Friday, August 22, brought together a diverse group of leaders, business partners, and community members to support a noble cause. The nine-hole tournament teed off at 07:00, setting a positive tone for a day dedicated to making a difference.

The MEC for culture, sport and recreation, Leah Mabuza, the MEC for health, Sasekani Manzini, and the mayor of Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, Lydia Moroane.

The event was graced by the presence of notable figures, including Bushbuckridge Local Municipality’s executive mayor, Lydia Moroane, and MECs Sasekani Manzini and Leah Mabuza.

Their attendance underscored the importance of the initiative and the strong partnership between government and civil society. The primary goal of this golf day was to raise crucial funds for the Orinoco C Drop-In Centre.

This non-profit organisation plays a vital role in the community by providing daily meals and educational support to more than 155 vulnerable minors from destitute families in Orinoco and surrounding areas.

Currently, the centre operates from a single-room structure with very limited resources, making the need for assistance all the more urgent.

According to PLGC President Mahlatse Malibe, the funds raised will be directly channelled toward significant improvements for the centre.

These include improving the centre’s infrastructure to create a safer and more stable environment, acquiring essential equipment to support the centre’s daily operations, and providing basic educational materials to enhance the learning and development of the children.

Malibe emphasised that the event serves as a powerful example of collaboration in action, aligning with the ANC’s Local Government Manifesto, which promotes partnerships between government, civic organisations, and the private sector for the benefit of local communities.

“The Executive Mayor’s Charity Golf Day is more than a sporting event,” said Malibe. “It is a platform to build partnerships, empower communities, and uplift the next generation. We are deeply grateful to our sponsors, players, and partners for making this vision a reality.”

She extended heartfelt appreciation to everyone who participated, highlighting that their generosity and commitment are making a meaningful difference in the lives of children who represent the future of society.

The success of this event is a testament to what can be achieved when a community unites for a shared purpose. Malibe confirmed that they managed to reach their target and will soon hand over the proceeds to the drop-in centre.

She called on the business community to join forces in supporting local NGOs that provide care for vulnerable children.
