Goodman truly lives up to his name

Deeds like this restore and underscore one's belief in one's fellow men and their innate good and honesty.

BARBERTON – In Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the latter asks “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose – by any other name would smell as sweet”.
The 29-year-old Goodman Mlambo has been an employee of Bold Line Filling Station for more than seven years.

A few weeks ago a regular customer stopped at the petrol pumps, but instead of filling up, he went into the Quick Shop. After he’d left, Goodman saw a wallet lying next to one of the pumps.

“I picked it up and kept it with me, because I had a hunch it belonged to the owner of that car. Later that afternoon they came back. I approached the woman and asked if they had lost something. She immediately told me they’d lost their wallet with all their cash and that was why they’d come back,” he said.

They were overwhelmed when Goodman produced the wallet with everything intact. It would have been so easy to take it and we asked Goodman if it hadn’t crossed his mind.

“I believe you don’t burn your bridges.Who says the day won’t come when I will be in need and these people will be there to help me. What you give in this world, you will receive in return. It feels good to be honest.” Manager of the filling station, Annet Schutte said, “We are proud to have trustworthy employees such as Goodman on our team.”

Not so long ago Barberton Times wrote about a similar situation when one of the trolley assistants at Pick n Pay took a whole bag of groceries to the office after finding the trolley abandoned outside just before closing time. Deeds like this restore and underscore one’s belief in one’s fellow men and their innate good and honesty.

The world certainly needs more people like Goodman around, whatever name they go by.
