Local Samancor employees battle it out
Samancor chrome held their own Masterchef competion.
TUBATSE – Samancor Chrome hosted a successful team-building day last Thursday at Tubatse Chrome Golf Club where the theme of the day was Tubatse Chef, based on the hit reality TV show, Masterchef South Africa.
Famous faces could be seen with Pieter Koen, singe and TV- and radio presenter who acted as the master of ceremonies. Sarel of Sabie became a well-known figure after being a contestant on Masterchef and was a judge on the day. He was also seen advising the contestants before the competition started.
Judges included Bethuel Motsileng, better known as Powers, manager of Burgersfort Spur and Wickus Viljoen, manager of Buffelsvlei guest farm. Hennie Groenewald, manager of the golf club advised the judges and contestants and could be seen providing the groups with very necessary laughs from time to time.
Employees of the mine took part in a cooking competition where they competed for the prize of the best potjie and also in cooking skills and spice-identification tests. They learned line-dancing and took turns performing on stage. Some performances were better than others and this kept audience thoroughly entertained.
Johnny Harmse, Medana Mulaudzi, Clifford Dintwe, Jan Grobler, Jaco Pieterse and Cobus Buitendag formed part of the group who won the overall Tubatse Chef competition. Wilna Volschenk achieved the best results in the spice-identification competition.
“It was a fun-filled day and Tubatse employees displayed good team spirit. The atmosphere was positive and everyone was willing to compete,” said Hilda Ferreira.
