Magudu receives container library from Woolworths
Over the past 10 years the Woolworths Trust has donated R34 million to projects which improve food security, reduce child vulnerability and uplift education.
BARBERTON – On Wednesday September 5 Woolworths Trust and MySchool donated a container library to Magudu Primary School. This included 600 books both in English and the local vernacular.
“Woolworth Trust is celebrating its 10th birthday this year,” says Zinzi Mgolodela, BEE transformation manager Woolworths. “And this donation forms part of our Mandela Day container library project in partnership with Breadline Africa. Magudu Primary School was chosen to receive this library because it has earned great success in EduPlant – a sustainable food-gardening programme which Woolworths funds. Joyce Mabaso (Principal Magadu Primary School) is the most remarkable participant of this programme. Her school has won every Eduplant category under her leadership and guidance.
It now has orchards, a banana plantation and grows flowers, herbs and vegetables. The school acts as a learning hub for the surrounding area and is sharing its seed and knowledge with more than
200 schools.”
Over the past 10 years the Woolworths Trust has donated R34 million to projects which improve food security, reduce child vulnerability and uplift education.
This year it donated an additional
R1 million to be utilised for the renovation of 10 children’s centres, giving 10 schools access to more books and helping them to grow food gardens.
It also supported 10 additional charities on Mandela Day.
