UPDATE: Camp inspires learners to excel

RYLY is one of the Rotaries’ many projects and RYLA participants are chosen by their local Rotary clubs.

BARBERTON – It was a dirty and tired, but very inspired group of grade 11 learners of Barberton High School that returned from the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (Ryla) camp on Sunday afternoon. They left early Thursday morning for Magoebaskloof in a jovial mood.

Over the next couple of days, these children have spent their time interacting with teenagers from other schools, taking part in various challenges and even overcoming certain fears.

Apart from facing these many ”survivor-type” challenges and really getting to trust their teammates, they attended numerous presentations on a variety of topics synonymous with Ryla camps, like leadership fundamentals and problem solving.

Ryla is one of Rotary’s many projects and participants are chosen by their local Rotary clubs. Rotarians believe that leadership is an important part of life and these programmes help with the development of young leaders and improve their skills in this area.

The students that partook in the September camp wants to extend a warm thank you to Mr Moolman and Ms Diamond who accompanied them as well as the Barberton Rotary Club for giving them this great opportunity.

“We’ve learned many life lessons and know our own abilities far better”.
