LYDENBURG – The Mashishing Civic Coalition held a very successful and peaceful mass meeting to consult with the public on Tuesday evening.
According to the convener Mr Mandlakayise Mabelane, the purpose of the meeting was to consult residents about the way forward following the peaceful protest staged on August 16 this year.
“We convened the meeting to reflect on our engagements with the MEC for cooperative governance and traditional affairs, following our march,” Mabelane told Steelburger/Lydenburg News.
He informed the paper that they are meeting the MEC, who will attend on behalf of the premier on Tuesday September 24 to take the negotiation process forward.
“The masses have given us a mandate and a strong team of men and women of quality. Some demands are not negotiable, like the electricity levy. We will chase the MEC away if it comes to that, like we did in 2009,” an uncompromising Mabelane added.
The coalition was also mandated to urgently meet with Eskom following a notice that the bulk electricity will be discontinued on the October 16 due to failure by Thaba Chweu Municipality to pay.
