Mmiditsi secondary organises a matric dance for their learners
The learners were well dressed in their costly and well fitting regalia
BURGERSFORT – It’s that time of the year when matric learners bid farewell to their classmates, with this idea in mind, Mmiditsi Secondary School hosted their matric dance for the class of 2013.
The event was organised at the majestic Valencia Country Lodge, which is situated between Burgersfort and Lydenburg, on the evening of September 19.
The debs ball as it is known, was attended by more than 70 learners, who arrived with their partners for the night. Teachers and SGB members were also present, acting as father figures for the Grade 12s.
It seemed like the day was planned years back. Some of them divulged to this reporter that they had spent more than R800 for their outfits.
Ladies were elegantly dressed in fancy evening dresses, complemented by their stilettos and their hairstyles were out of this world. The gents donned tuxedos and luxurious designer suits.
Although some of them were without partners, they were still thrilled with the occasion. Matshidiso Mpheti, a learner from the school told Steelburger/Lydenburg News that the ball will be remembered for the rest of her life.
“I never thought this day would be so special to me, I like the lodge, the catering and the music as well. Pity that we will never have the chance to gather like this again as we will be at different tertiary institutions.”
Teacher and organiser of the event, Mr Hendrick Mariri says it will be remembered in years to come.
“The aim is for them to create friendships and to have fun. We wanted them to feel the wild life and breeze of Valencia. As a school, we always aim high, we hope to see them excelling in their studies like they did today with their outfits,” he joked.
The teachers reminded the learners that in four weeks time, the atmosphere will be different as they will be seated for their first paper (English).
The school also invited motivational speakers who guide the learners on their preparation for the exams. The learners vowed to improve the 71, 05 per cent pass rate achieved by the class of 2012.
Manager of the lodge, Mr Nik Greyling wished the learners luck on their upcoming exams. He urged them to read their question papers before attempting to answer them.
