Rotarians come to the aid of Masibambisane

BARBERTON – During August, the Masibambisane Sewing Project in Emjindini burned down. This project was created to fight poverty in the community by empowering unemployed black women. It was started in 1990 and over recent years many uneducated women were taught how to design and sew so they too could make a living for themselves and support their families.
The fire destroyed all their material, sewing machines and other equipment and after the inferno died down, only half of the building was left.

Recently manager of the project, Siphiwe Ndlovu, wrote a letter requesting assistance. He asked for any donation to restart the project. “Some of the women involved in this project are breadwinners. Their lives depend on this project and any help will be appreciated,” Ndlovu didn’t ask for financial assistance, but sewing machines, chairs, tables, zinc, paint and windows.
This letter ended up with Flicka Goslett, secretary of the Rotary Club and it was decided that they should do something to get the project on track again.

On Thursday, Lindiwe Mathenjwa, assistant manager and Ngenzirabona Shabani an instructor collected, a brand-new sewing machine from town, bought by the Rotarians. As an added surprise, they also gave them a long steel work table and a chair.
The Masibambisane Sewing Project is still in need of more sewing machines, material and other equipment, but what the club has given them, is the well-known “rod to start fishing with”.

Should you wish to sponsor in any way, contact Siphiwe on 083-314-5057 or Lindiwe on 072-537-4122.
