LIMPOPO – The Department of Roads and Transport in Limpopo will hand over its extended public works (EPWP) projects worth over R126 million to five district municipalities in the province.

According to Mr Jimmy Machaka, spokesman for the department, the objective of the EPWP projects is to provide maintenance to the provincial roads infrastructure using labour-intensive methods.

“The projects will benefit 4 200 households belonging to the poorest of the poor in the community in seven municipalities in various districts namely Ba Phalaborwa, Ephraim Mogale, Greater Giyani, Makhado, Thulamela, Thabazimbi and Polokwane,” explained Machaka.

He said R18 million would be spent on each project at an overall cost of R126 million.

The handover started at Thabazimbi Municipality on November 13 and is expected to be completed by November 22.

“The projects are expected to commence on December 1 and will run for a year,” he continued.

The MEC for roads and transport in the province, Mr Lehlogonolo Masoga said, “It is from humble beginnings at local level that great things begin and great nations are built.”’
