LYDENBURG – “Don’t be a parasite. Don’t live off the residents’ blood.”
The acting municipal manager at Thaba Chweu Municipality (TCM), Mr Gilbert Nkosi told Steelburger/Lydenburg News that they are working on combatting breached prepaid meter boxes.
He said that the R163 million owed to Eskom is unaccounted for. “Both Eskom and TCM does not know where the money has gone. We don’t have a system in place to see where that money went missing.”
He said he is extremely unhappy about the situation and that TCM cannot control and manage the credit of electricity being bought from the service provider as they do not have a system in place. “We aim to get a system with a host and a server in the municipality in order to manage electricity credits.”
He also warned members of the community that breached electricity meters will not be tolerated. “When the new by-law has been passed, once caught, the perpetrators’ property will be sold to make up for the theft of electricity.”
Nkosi said he is sending out a stern warning to residents not to breach boxes and to pay their rates and taxes as law abiding citizens.
