LYDENBURG – “We will build you a two-bedroom house with a living room and bathroom so that parents will be able to have sex in privacy.”
This was one of the statements the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) made when he visited Extension 6, also known as Nkandla, on Wednesday afternoon.
Some 20 police officers escorted Malema and his entourage of eight cars to the designated area where, despite the fact the Malema arrived two hours late, some 1 000 residents rocked up to listen to the leader of the newly founded political party.
Malema kicked off the event singing; “Aye saba magwala dubula dubula i 9mm pistol is a small thing. Zi ye saba le zinja singenile e Nkandla.”
Roughly translated it means “shoot those who fear, those who are corrupt and those who rape. We have entered Nkandla. They are rapists, those dogs”.
Malema slammed twee ANC on the lack of service delivery. “We went to Nkandla where Zuma comes from. We went to Gauteng, Eastern Cape, Hermanus and we heard what people were crying for. We are not changing Nkandla where Zuma comes from, but changing Nkandla Lydenburg, as it doesn’t have electricity, water, toilets, roads and even streets (sic).”
He said they knew about the corruption in Thaba Chweu Municipalty. “It’s all about dating people employed according to surnames, families and friends. They say if you vote EFF they will take away those pension and child grand funds from you, we will fight for
that.”
Malema also said that they would step on Zuma and crush him. “We choose the leaders who lead us and they come again fooling us. Telling us they invest us. They are afraid to tell us there are whites working under them and the whites are the investors (sic). Away with the criminal African National Congress. It is a museum of corruption. (sic)”
He also openly made an example of Mr Patrice Motsepe, founder and executive chairman of African Rainbow Minerals, which has interests in gold, ferrous metals, base metals, and platinum. He said that although it looked as if Motsepe was the head of things,
the whites were still running the show. “Motsepe is just a front.”
He said Jacob Zuma had built a R500 000 spaza shop for his wife, while the people living here in Nkandla don’t even have houses. “He even built a kraal for his livestock worth R1 million. Meanwhile people are suffering not having homes to hide their heads (sic).”
Malema also said that people don’t have dignity. “You have to travel far to relieve yourself either behind a tree or stone. You don’t have
toilets or water. A toilet is not a luxury, it is a basic need.”
He said that the youth were leaving school and have stopped looking for jobs. “They end up taking drugs and boozing as their right. Vote for EFF it will provide a roof over your head and put bread on your table.”
Again openly attacking the ANC, he said that this party have been doing the same thing for 20 years with the same results. “You are still living in shacks 20 years later. There has been no change. If you want change, you must change how you vote. You can’t eat history.
Take a stand against the undermining of black people. There is no party in South Africa that takes blacks seriously. All of them are white parties. When they speak they say investors, they are not talking about the people anymore.”
Near the end of his speech several residents had already left the gathering. While others had nothing but praise for the EFF leader, some could be heard mumbling that; “Malema is a rubbish.”
He ended off by singing, “Viva EFF viva, phansi ngo Jacob Zuma phansi, phansi ngo David Mabuza phanzi,” (down with Jacob Zuma and down with David Mabuza).
