MEC supports youths in sport

The MEC of finance donated soccer boots, soccer kits, a volleyball kit, two netball kits and more than 50 soccer balls to six local sport teams in Ngodwana.

NELSPRUIT – Ngodwana sports teams benefitted from new kits over the weekend, when Mr Madala Masuku, MEC of finance, made the donation.

Masuku donated the sets of sporting kit and related items to six local sport teams in Ngodwana on Saturday.

The items included 75 sets of soccer boots, 10 soccer kits, a volleyball kit, two netball kits and more than 50 soccer balls. According to his office, this was made possible by local businesses that share Masuku’s passion for community development.

The donation of the sport items came after the youth of the community made a plea to the Office of the MEC to assist with sport development resources so that they may channel their energy into sport activities to avoid taking part in unlawful activities.

“It is exciting to see the determination of the youth of this community. They show their extraordinary love for sport every day,” Masuku said. “When I first spotted them playing in this grounds, the situation was not good. One could not even see whether they were teams because each was wearing a different T-shirt.”

He added that sports would help the youths stay away from illegal activities and inspire them to learn how teamwork can change the lives of the less fortunate amongst them.

“Their attitude is phenomenal. I am impressed by their willingness to do better and improve not only their lives but the entire community as well,” the MEC concluded.
