Company apologises for bad driver behaviour

Unitrans will ensure such conduct will not take place in future

Unitrans unconditionally apologised to motorists who witnessed a truck driver urinating openly on the R40 control point on Friday, January 17. Unitrans’ infrastructure is utilised by Pick n Pay to transport their products to their stores.

“Unitrans Supply Chain Solutions confirms that the driver of the Pick n Pay heavy transport vehicle was a driver for Unitrans Supply Chain Solution,” says Mr Frank Wagner, CEO Unitrans Supply Chain Solutions. “Unitrans sincerely apologises to Pick n Pay and the general public for the inappropriate conduct of one of its drivers. As soon as the company was informed of this situation, the necessary disciplinary action was taken against the driver in question. In addition, Unitrans will ensure that all of our drivers are informed of the incident in order to ensure that such a situation never occurs again

Hazyview Herald reported on the incident when numerous motorists sent photographs to the newspaper and communicated their shock and displeasure at the behaviour exhibited by the driver. These complaints were then directed to Pick n Pay.

When Kobus Barnard, general manager supply chain Pick n Pay, was alerted to the incident he immediately addressed it with Unitrans. Hazyview Herald was contacted by Pick n Pay and informed that the matter would be investigated and feedback was provided via the above statement by Unitrans.
